$4 million scratch-off lottery ticket sold at Thumb area Meijer store - MLive.com

BAD AXE, MI -- A 42-year-old Macomb County man who bought a scratch-off lottery ticket at a Meijer store in Bad Axe won a $4 million prize.

Michigan Lottery officials announced the winning ticket on Wednesday, Dec. 28.

The man, who did not want to be identified, bought a Diamond 7s ticket at the Meijer store at 100 Pigeon Road.

Diamond 7s tickets cost $30 each.

The man told lottery officials that he scratched the bar code at the bottom of the ticket first and it told him to file a claim. He then began scratching the rest of the card.

"As soon as I scratched the winning symbol and saw '4MIL' underneath, I grabbed the ticket and ran out of the store. I was in complete shock!," he told lottery officials in a statement.

When he redeemed the ticket, the man chose a lump-sum payment of about $2.5 million.

He plans to buy a home, then save the rest of the money.
