But Andy Walker thinks the fee is 'steep'Credit: PAThe Portuguese midfielder hit a rich vein of form at the turn of the year and scored in the Old Firm win over Rangers.
It has been reported the 22-year-old has done enough to persuade Brendan Rodgers to extend his loan deal from Benfica into a permanent stay at Celtic Park.
The initial deal set the figure around £6million and A Bola claim that the Hoops are making the midfielder 'a priority' this summer, but at a newly negotiated rate.
Whether that comes to pass or not remains to be seen at the end of the loan - but former Hoops striker Andy Walker doesn't think it represents value for money.
Infact he has touted an alternative much closer to home - at a club where the Hoops have regularly done business in the past.
Stephen Pearson, David Turnbull and Phil O'Donnell made the move from Motherwell to Parkhead - as did Walker himself.
He reckons the Hoops should go back to Fir Park and bid for rising star Lennon Miller.
And he's not alone.

Pressure of Rangers vs Celtic was too much for John Beaton, writes Bill LeckieMiller received rave reviews for his displays against both Rangers and setting up a stunning strike for Blair Spittal against Celtic earlier this year.
But Walker says a deal there makes more sense than forking out for Bernardo.
Awkward moment James McFadden says Celtic should buy Lewis Ferguson with Matt O'Riley cashSpeaking on Go Radio he said: " "It seems a bit steep if it is £6m and that is the type of fee you need to pay. I look around Scotland and, for example, Lennon Miller at Motherwell.
"I think he has great potential. Celtic have a history of going and getting players like Stephen Pearson from Motherwell in midfield, David Turnbull and my good friend Phil O'Donnell.
"Lennon Miller I think is someone who will go on to bigger and better things but £6m for Bernardo? It seems very steep.
"I think it is a lot of money for someone who has played a decent amount of games but not really impressed that much other than that little purple patch that he had.

Pundits urged both sides of the Old Firm to take a closer look at Miller - son of ex-Hearts, Dundee United and Falkirk striker Lee.
However Well boss Stuart Kettlewell revealed he keeps his star man grounded - by keeping him out of the first-team dressing room.
